והוה מזמן יומין סגיאין ופתגם נבואה מן קדם יי הוה עם אליהו בשתא תליתאה למימר אזיל אתחזי לאחאב ואתן מטרא על אפי ארעא:
area apy el mTra wathn lakhab athkhzy azyl lmymr thlythah bshtha alyhw em hwh yy qdm mn nbwah wpthgm sgyayn ywmyn mzmn whwh
After many days, Yahweh’s word came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go, show yourself to Ahab; and I will send rain on the earth.”

ואזל אליהו לאתחזאה לאחאב וכפנא תקיף בשומרון:
bshwmrwn thqyp wkpna lakhab lathkhzah alyhw wazl
Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. The famine was severe in Samaria.

וקרא אחאב לעובדיהו די ממנא על ביתא ועובדיהו הוה דחיל מן קדם יי לחדא:
lkhda yy qdm mn dkhyl hwh wewbdyhw bytha el mmna dy lewbdyhw akhab wqra
Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. (Now Obadiah feared Yahweh greatly;

והוה כד קטלת איזבל ית נביאיא דיי ודבר עובדיהו מאה גברין נביאין ואטמרינון חמשין גברא במערתא וסוברינון בלחמא ובמיא:
wbmya blkhma wswbrynwn bmertha gbra khmshyn waTmrynwn nbyayn gbryn mah ewbdyhw wdbr dyy nbyaya yth ayzbl qTlth kd whwh
for when Jezebel cut off Yahweh’s prophets, Obadiah took one hundred prophets, and hid them fifty to a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

ואמר אחאב לעובדיהו הליך בארעא על כל מבועי מיא ועל כל נחליא מאים נשכח עסבא ונקים סוסון וכודנון ולא נפסוק מבעירא:
mbeyra npswq wla wkwdnwn swswn wnqym esba nshkkh maym nkhlya kl wel mya mbwey kl el barea hlyk lewbdyhw akhab wamr
Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go through the land, to all the springs of water, and to all the brooks. Perhaps we may find grass and save the horses and mules alive, that we not lose all the animals.”

ופליגו להון ית ארעא למעבר בה אחאב אזל באורחא חדא בלחודוהי ועובדיהו אזל באורחא חדא בלחודוהי:
blkhwdwhy khda bawrkha azl wewbdyhw blkhwdwhy khda bawrkha azl akhab bh lmebr area yth lhwn wplygw
So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it. Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

והוה עובדיהו אזיל באורחא והא אליהו לקדמותיה ואשתמודעיה ונפל על אפוהי ואמר האת דין רבוני אליהו:
alyhw rbwny dyn hath wamr apwhy el wnpl washthmwdeyh lqdmwthyh alyhw wha bawrkha azyl ewbdyhw whwh
As Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah met him. He recognized him, and fell on his face, and said, “Is it you, my lord Elijah?”

ואמר ליה אנא אזיל אמר לרבונך הא אליהו:
alyhw ha lrbwnk amr azyl ana lyh wamr
He answered him, “It is I. Go, tell your lord, ‘Behold, Elijah is here!’”
9
ואמר מה חבית ארי את מסר ית עבדך בידא דאחאב למקטלי:
lmqTly dakhab byda ebdk yth msr ath ary khbyth mh wamr
He said, “How have I sinned, that you would deliver your servant into the hand of Ahab, to kill me?

קים הוא יי אלהך אם אית עם ומלכו דלא שלח רבוני לתמן למבעך ואמרו לא הוה כא ומומי ית מלכותא וית עמא ארי לא משכח לך:
lk mshkkh la ary ema wyth mlkwtha yth wmwmy ka hwh la wamrw lmbek lthmn rbwny shlkh dla wmlkw em ayth am alhk yy hwa qym
As Yahweh your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you. When they said, ‘He is not here,’ he took an oath of the kingdom and nation that they didn’t find you.

וכען את אמר אזיל אמר לרבונך הא אליהו:
alyhw ha lrbwnk amr azyl amr ath wken
Now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, “Behold, Elijah is here.”’
12
ויהי עוד דאנא אזיל מלותך ורוחא מן קדם יי יטלינך לאתר דלא אידע ואהך לחואה לאחאב ולא ישכחינך ויקטלינני ועבדך דחיל מן קדם יי מזעורי:
mzewry yy qdm mn dkhyl webdk wyqTlynny yshkkhynk wla lakhab lkhwah wahk ayde dla lathr yTlynk yy qdm mn wrwkha mlwthk azyl dana ewd wyhy
It will happen, as soon as I leave you, that Yahweh’s Spirit will carry you I don’t know where; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he can’t find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared Yahweh from my youth.

הלא אתחוא לרבוני ית דעבדית כד קטלת איזבל ית נביאיא דיי ואטמרית מנביאיא דיי מאה גברין חמשין חמשין גבר במערתא וסוברתינון בלחמא ובמיא:
wbmya blkhma wswbrthynwn bmertha gbr khmshyn khmshyn gbryn mah dyy mnbyaya waTmryth dyy nbyaya yth ayzbl qTlth kd debdyth yth lrbwny athkhwa hla
Wasn’t it told my lord what I did when Jezebel killed Yahweh’s prophets, how I hid one hundred men of Yahweh’s prophets with fifty to a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

וכען את אמר אזיל אמר לרבונך הא אליהו ויקטלינני:
wyqTlynny alyhw ha lrbwnk amr azyl amr ath wken
Now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, “Behold, Elijah is here”.’ He will kill me.”
15
ואמר אליהו קים הוא יי צבאות די משמשנא קדמוהי ארי יומא דין אתחזי ליה:
lyh athkhzy dyn ywma ary qdmwhy mshmshna dy tsbawth yy hwa qym alyhw wamr
Elijah said, “As Yahweh of Armies lives, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him today.”

ואזל עובדיה לקדמות אחאב וחוי ליה ואזל אחאב לקדמות אליהו:
alyhw lqdmwth akhab wazl lyh wkhwy akhab lqdmwth ewbdyh wazl
So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

והוה כד חזא אחאב ית אליהו ואמר אחאב ליה האת דין עכריה דישראל:
dyshral ekryh dyn hath lyh akhab wamr alyhw yth akhab khza kd whwh
When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, “Is that you, you troubler of Israel?”

ואמר לא עכרית ית ישראל אלהין את ובית אבוך בדשבקתון ית פקודיא דיי ואזלתון בתר בעליא:
belya bthr wazlthwn dyy pqwdya yth bdshbqthwn abwk wbyth ath alhyn yshral yth ekryth la wamr
He answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken Yahweh’s commandments and you have followed the Baals.

וכען שלח כנוש לותי ית כל ישראל לטור כרמלא וית נביי בעלא ארבע מאה וחמשין ונביי אשרתא ארבע מאה אכלי פתורא דאיזבל:
dayzbl pthwra akly mah arbe ashrtha wnbyy wkhmshyn mah arbe bela nbyy wyth krmla lTwr yshral kl yth lwthy knwsh shlkh wken
Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and four hundred fifty of the prophets of Baal, and four hundred of the prophets of the Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”

ושלח אחאב בכל בני ישראל וכנש ית נביי שקרא לטור כרמלא:
krmla lTwr shqra nbyy yth wknsh yshral bny bkl akhab wshlkh
So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together to Mount Carmel.
21
וקריב אליהו לות כל עמא ואמר עד אימתי אתון פליגין לתרין פלגון הלא יי אלהים פלחו קדמוהי בלחודוהי ולמא אתון טען בתר בעלא דלית ביה צרוך ולא אתיבו עמא יתיה פתגם:
pthgm ythyh ema athybw wla tsrwk byh dlyth bela bthr Ten athwn wlma blkhwdwhy qdmwhy plkhw alhym yy hla plgwn lthryn plygyn athwn aymthy ed wamr ema kl lwth alyhw wqryb
Elijah came near to all the people, and said, “How long will you waver between the two sides? If Yahweh is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” The people didn’t say a word.

ואמר אליהו לעמא אנא אשתארית נביא קדם יי בלחודי ונביי בעלא ארבע מאה וחמשין גברא:
gbra wkhmshyn mah arbe bela wnbyy blkhwdy yy qdm nbya ashtharyth ana lema alyhw wamr
Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left as a prophet of Yahweh; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred fifty men.

ויתיהבון לנא תרין תורין ויבחרון להון תורא חד ויהדמוניה וישוון על אעיא ואשתא לא ישוון ואנא אעביר ית תורא חד ואתן על אעיא ואשתא לא אשוי:
ashwy la washtha aeya el wathn khd thwra yth aebyr wana yshwwn la washtha aeya el wyshwwn wyhdmwnyh khd thwra lhwn wybkhrwn thwryn thryn lna wythyhbwn
Let them therefore give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under; and I will dress the other bull, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under it.

ותקרון בשום טעותכון ולא תתענון מן קדם דלית ביה צרוך ברם אנא אצלי בשמא דיי וישלח מימריה ויחות אשתא ארי יי הוא אלהים ואתיב כל עמא ואמרו תקין פתגמא:
pthgma thqyn wamrw ema kl wathyb alhym hwa yy ary ashtha wykhwth mymryh wyshlkh dyy bshma atsly ana brm tsrwk byh dlyth qdm mn ththenwn wla Tewthkwn bshwm wthqrwn
You call on the name of your god, and I will call on Yahweh’s name. The God who answers by fire, let him be God.” All the people answered, “What you say is good.”

ואמר אליהו לנביי בעלא בחרו לכון תורא חד ועבידו קדמיתא ארי אתון סגיאין וקרו בשום טעותכון ואשתא לא תשוון:
thshwwn la washtha Tewthkwn bshwm wqrw sgyayn athwn ary qdmytha webydw khd thwra lkwn bkhrw bela lnbyy alyhw wamr
Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose one bull for yourselves, and dress it first, for you are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under it.”

ונסיבו ית תורא דיהב להון ועבדו וקרו בשום בעלא מצפרא ועד עדן טיהרא למימר בעלא ענינא ולית קל ולית דעני ואשתטו על אגורא דעבד:
debd agwra el washthTw deny wlyth ql wlyth enyna bela lmymr Tyhra edn wed mtspra bela bshwm wqrw webdw lhwn dyhb thwra yth wnsybw
They took the bull which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, “Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice, and nobody answered. They leaped about the altar which was made.

והוה בעדן טיהרא וחיך בהון אליהו ואמר קרו בקל רב ארי אתון אמרין דחלא הוא דלמא שועי ליה או אשתדפא אשתדיף או אורח הות ליה או דלמא דמוך הוא ויתער:
wyther hwa dmwk dlma aw lyh hwth awrkh aw ashthdyp ashthdpa aw lyh shwey dlma hwa dkhla amryn athwn ary rb bql qrw wamr alyhw bhwn wkhyk Tyhra bedn whwh
At noon, Elijah mocked them, and said, “Cry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is deep in thought, or he has gone somewhere, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps and must be awakened.”

וקרו בקל רב ואתחממו כנימוסיהון בסיפין וברומחין עד דאשתפיך דמא עליהון:
elyhwn dma dashthpyk ed wbrwmkhyn bsypyn knymwsyhwn wathkhmmw rb bql wqrw
They cried aloud, and cut themselves in their way with knives and lances until the blood gushed out on them.
29
והוה כמעבר טיהרא ואשתטיאו עד למיסק מנחתא ולית קל ולית דעני ולית דמצית:
dmtsyth wlyth deny wlyth ql wlyth mnkhtha lmysq ed washthTyaw Tyhra kmebr whwh
When midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the evening offering; but there was no voice, no answer, and nobody paid attention.

ואמר אליהו לכל עמא אתקריבו לותי וקריבו כל עמא לותיה ובנא ית מדבחא דיי דהוה מפגר:
mpgr dhwh dyy mdbkha yth wbna lwthyh ema kl wqrybw lwthy athqrybw ema lkl alyhw wamr
Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me!”; and all the people came near to him. He repaired Yahweh’s altar that had been thrown down.

ונסיב אליהו תרתא עסרי אבניא למנין שבטי בני יעקב די הוה פתגמא דיי עמיה למימר ישראל יהי שמך:
shmk yhy yshral lmymr emyh dyy pthgma hwh dy yeqb bny shbTy lmnyn abnya esry thrtha alyhw wnsyb
Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom Yahweh’s word came, saying, “Israel shall be your name.”

ובנא ית אבניא מדבחא בשמא דיי ועבד מזיקתא כבית סאתן זרעא סחור סחור למדבחא:
lmdbkha skhwr skhwr zrea sathn kbyth mzyqtha webd dyy bshma mdbkha abnya yth wbna
With the stones he built an altar in Yahweh’s name. He made a trench around the altar large enough to contain two seahs of seed.
33
וסדר ית אעיא והדים ית תורא ושוי על אעיא:
aeya el wshwy thwra yth whdym aeya yth wsdr
He put the wood in order, and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. He said, “Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.”

ואמר מלו ארבע כדין מיא ואריקו על עלתא ועל אעיא ואמר תנו ותנו ואמר תליתו ותליתו:
wthlythw thlythw wamr wthnw thnw wamr aeya wel eltha el waryqw mya kdyn arbe mlw wamr
He said, “Do it a second time;” and they did it the second time. He said, “Do it a third time;” and they did it the third time.
35
ואזלו מיא סחור סחור למדבחא ואף ית מזיקתא מלי מיא:
mya mly mzyqtha yth wap lmdbkha skhwr skhwr mya wazlw
The water ran around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water.
36
והוה במיסק מנחתא וקריב אליהו נביא ואמר יי אלהיה דאברהם יצחק וישראל יומא דין יתידע ארי את יי דשכנתך שריא בישראל ואנא עבדך ובפתגמך עבדית ית כל פתגמיא האילין:
haylyn pthgmya kl yth ebdyth wbpthgmk ebdk wana byshral shrya dshknthk yy ath ary ythyde dyn ywma wyshral ytskhq dabrhm alhyh yy wamr nbya alyhw wqryb mnkhtha bmysq whwh
At the time of the evening offering, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “Yahweh, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.

קבל צלותי יי באשתא קבל צלותי יי במטרא וידעון עמא הדין במעבדך להון נסא ארי את יי אלהים ואת ברחימתך יתהון משתאיל להון במימרך לאתבותהון לדחלתך ואינון יהבו ית לבהון פליג:
plyg lbhwn yth yhbw waynwn ldkhlthk lathbwthhwn bmymrk lhwn mshthayl ythhwn brkhymthk wath alhym yy ath ary nsa lhwn bmebdk hdyn ema wydewn bmTra yy tslwthy qbl bashtha yy tslwthy qbl
Hear me, Yahweh, hear me, that this people may know that you, Yahweh, are God, and that you have turned their heart back again.”
38
ונפלת אשתא מן קדם יי ואכלת ית עלתא וית אעיא וית אבניא וית עפרא וית מיא דמבזיקתא לחיכת:
lkhykth dmbzyqtha mya wyth epra wyth abnya wyth aeya wyth eltha yth waklth yy qdm mn ashtha wnplth
Then Yahweh’s fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust; and it licked up the water that was in the trench.
39
וחזו כל עמא ונפלו על אפיהון ואמרו יי הוא אלהים יי הוא אלהים:
alhym hwa yy alhym hwa yy wamrw apyhwn el wnplw ema kl wkhzw
When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces. They said, “Yahweh, he is God! Yahweh, he is God!”
40
ואמר אליהו להון אחודו ית נביי בעלא גבר אל ישתיזיב מנהון ואחדונון ואחתינון אליהו לנחלא דקישון ונכסינון תמן:
thmn wnksynwn dqyshwn lnkhla alyhw wakhthynwn wakhdwnwn mnhwn yshthyzyb al gbr bela nbyy yth akhwdw lhwn alyhw wamr
Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal! Don’t let one of them escape!” They seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and killed them there.

ואמר אליהו לאחאב סק אכול ושתי ארי קל אתרגושת מטרא:
mTra athrgwshth ql ary wshthy akwl sq lakhab alyhw wamr
Elijah said to Ahab, “Get up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.”
42
וסליק אחאב למיכל ולמשתי ואליהו סליק לריש טורא דכרמלא ונחין לארעא ושוי אפוהי בין ברכוהי:
brkwhy byn apwhy wshwy larea wnkhyn dkrmla Twra lrysh slyq walyhw wlmshthy lmykl akhab wslyq
So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down on the earth, and put his face between his knees.
43
ואמר לעולימיה סק כען סכי לאורח מערבא וסליק וסכא ואמר לית מדעם ואמר תוב שבע זמנין:
zmnyn shbe thwb wamr mdem lyth wamr wska wslyq merba lawrkh sky ken sq lewlymyh wamr
He said to his servant, “Go up now and look toward the sea.” He went up and looked, then said, “There is nothing.” He said, “Go again” seven times.

והוה בזמנא שביעיתא ואמר הא עננא סליק זעירא כפיסת יד גבר סליק ממערבא ואמר סק אמר לאחאב אזדרז וחות ולא יעכבינך מטרא:
mTra yekbynk wla wkhwth azdrz lakhab amr sq wamr mmerba slyq gbr yd kpysth zeyra slyq enna ha wamr shbyeytha bzmna whwh
On the seventh time, he said, “Behold, a small cloud, like a man’s hand, is rising out of the sea.” He said, “Go up, tell Ahab, ‘Get ready and go down, so that the rain doesn’t stop you.’”
45
והוה עד דמזדרז ונחית ושמיא אתחפיאו עננא ורוחא והוה מטר סגי ורכיב אחאב ואזל ליזרעאל:
lyzreal wazl akhab wrkyb sgy mTr whwh wrwkha enna athkhpyaw wshmya wnkhyth dmzdrz ed whwh
In a little while, the sky grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
